what it is
Menotropins, also called hMG or human menopausal gonadotropin, are a biologic mixture rather than one small molecule. Reconstituted Menopur supplies 75 IU FSH activity and 75 IU LH activity per vial, and the label says hCG is detected.

In the labeled female ART context, FSH and LH activity stimulate follicular growth and maturation. A separate hCG trigger follows adequate maturation. This biologic-activity description does not make Menopur interchangeable with recombinant FSH, purified FSH, LH alone, or another historical hMG product.

FDA approved Menopur NDA 21-663 in 2004 for subcutaneous use in assisted reproduction. Current DailyMed labeling covers ovulatory women in an ART cycle and does not label the product for men, libido, hypogonadism, or hormone replacement.

The label trial and MEGASET-HR support controlled ovarian stimulation and pregnancy outcomes in monitored ART populations. MEGASET-HR found noninferior ongoing pregnancy and similar cumulative live birth in selected high responders, with protocol-dependent OHSS differences.
