what the source colours mean

this rates the source, not the strength of the evidence. an animal study in a peer-reviewed journal is independent, because the record is sound. whether it carries a human claim is a separate question, answered in words beside it.

  • independentindependentpublished or checked by a third party with no stake in the answer: peer review, a public trial registry, an approved label, or a regulator.
  • interestedinteresteda named, accountable publisher who either has a stake in the answer or is retelling someone else's record. worth reading, worth checking against a primary source.
  • uncheckeduncheckedthe party making the claim is the party selling the thing, or the author is anonymous. nobody independent has checked it.
  • no datano datano link, an unrecognised publisher, or a reference that does not resolve to a source. it is not rated, which is not the same as being rated poorly.
